Composites

Glass fiber reinforced vinyl ester and epoxy are used extensively for the construction of many parts and products like boats and yachts and other applications. Due to the light weight component, composite yachts are relatively faster and more efficient than steel or aluminum yachts.

A composite is any two or more components that are combined together in order to create a new material that is superior to the individual components.  In the marine industry the most common modern composite components are fiberglass, carbon and Kevlar which are mixed with resin, hardener or catalyst and appropriate fillers.

Laminates are the most prominent materials used in the construction of modern vessels. This is due to their 'strength to weight ratio' which, when combined with the dielectric (non conducting) properties, makes composites very appealing to boat builders.
